Youth to Everest (16 days)

After arriving in the historic Nepalese capital of Kathmandu, trekkers fly from Kathmandu to the alpine airport at Lukla at the base of the Everest Valley.  Lukla, at an altitude of 2,840m, is a significant village through which many trekkers and mountaineers pass each year.  We are joined by porters who carry our kit-bags enabling us to carry just day packs containing our immediate requirements.

Our biggest trekking day takes us from Phakdingma at 2,840m up to Namche, the capital for the Sherpa people at an altitude of 3,440m, where we acclimatize for two nights before walking to Khunde.  Two nights are spent here at our stunning campsite with some of the best mountain views in the world.  After visits to Sir Edmund Hillary's Khunde Hospital and Khumjung School we trek up the Thyangboche Hill to an altitude of 3,860m and then cross the plateau to Deboche; stunning views are in every direction.  The highest point we reach is approximately 4,800m at Ama Dablam Base Camp.  At Pangboche we are mid-way up the Khumbu Valley, well above the height of Mt Cook, and within 12 kilometres of Mt Everest itself; we have several opportunities to sight Everest.

Our trek leadership team consists of a Group Leader and a Registered Nurse (both from New Zealand), a Head Sherpa (Sirdar) and one other Sherpa guide; adult trekkers are invited to join as well.  We have a trek safety and management program that is second to none. Youth to Everest treks continue to be endorsed by many schools throughout New Zealand.
