Super Luxury Everest Base Camp

with Mark Inglis and John Gully (15 days)

This is an absolute "top end" trek to Mt Everest Base Camp, guided by two of the most experienced Everest trekking guides in the industry.

Mark Inglis is the only double amputee to have reached the summit of Mt Everest, and John Gully has guided more than 70 groups to the Everest region over 29 years.

Itinerary

On arrival in Kathmandu you will be met outside the terminal by Mark and John and taken to the 5 Star Hyatt Regency.

After checking in to the hotel the day is spent on orientation of Kathmandu, or relaxing around the pool for the remainder of the day, then packing for the mountains. Rather than use fixed wing aircraft we will have a leisurely breakfast, then climb aboard a chartered helicopter for the one hour flight to Lukla. An easy stroll to our first lodge, the Yeti Mountain Home in Monjo.

We ascend the Namche Hill to the Sherpa capital and to our Yeti Mountain Home in Namche.  We take a rest day in Namche with an optional short hike to the National Park Headquarters where John, Mark and Sherpa guides will share stories about the mountains, the Sherpa, and their collective experiences in this World Heritage Park.

Our trail the following day takes us past the Tenzing Memorial then up to Thyangboche and down to Rivendell Lodge in Deboche. This lodge is owned by another Tenzing Sherpa, who is Personal Executive Secretary to the Rimpoche Lama.

We are now in the upper reaches of the Khumbu Valley where we are treated to some of the best alpine vistas on earth.  Our pace on the trail is very slow; we take time to hydrate, eat, and visit homes of Sherpa friends for tea.

We visit the famous Lama Geshe in Pangboche for a private audience with him.  Lama Geshe came to the Khumbu from his native Tibet in the 1950s and now gives blessings to all who undertake an Everest climb.

Lunch at Pangboche and up to our accommodation for two nights in the hamlet of Dingboche.  A rest day is scheduled here but options are available for day walks close to the village.

A long day takes us to our penultimate destination in Lobuche. Mother Earth House was completed in April 2015 and offers warm, comfortable accommodation although not to the standard we had down the valley.  It is the best lodge available in Lobuche.

Most other trekking companies will have clients walk from Lobuche to Everest Base Camp this next day.  We trek just to Gorak Shep, have a snack, and weather permitting ascend Kala Pathar for the most spectacular view of Mt Everest.  The next day is up to Everest Base Camp for celebrations and photos.

We descend back down valley with nights in just Dingboche, Deboche and Namche.  Then we board a chartered helicopter and return directly to the Hyatt Regency, and the end of our journey.
